The Shropshire Youth Support Trust (SYST) has teamed up with University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) to offer a drop-in advice session for unemployed young people to discuss opportunities and support available to set up their own business.

People can stop by at Guildhall, UCS’s learning and research base, on Wednesday 29 June 2016 between 12pm and 3pm for information and guidance on running a successful business.

Richard Nuttall, SYST’s Business Centre Manager and Daniel Clark, a Programme Leader from the Business and Community Development learning and research area at UCS, will be on hand to provide advice throughout the session.

The SYST is a youth charity that runs an Enterprise Centre for disadvantaged young people in Shropshire, providing space and support for them to create a job for themselves, maximising their business and personal potential, leading to financial independence.

The Centre in Telford provides subsidised business space, coupled with business advice and personal support through mentoring, and innovative sales opportunities. In addition, it provides workshops, networking and marketing opportunities.

Richard said:

“We provide a hub to help unemployed 18 to 30 year olds in the local area to use their talents and potential so they can run a profitable and viable business.

“The Centre offers subsidised studios and workshops, rising to commercial rates over two years, alongside intensive business advice and support.

“For these young people, working for themselves is a way of overcoming difficulties in securing a job while long term the Centre will support regeneration in the Shropshire area by developing local enterprise and creating employment opportunities in the surrounding community.”

Daniel added:

“It is important for us to work with charities such as the SYST. Our learning, activities and research are designed to foster entrepreneurship and local business and this partnership provides another opportunity to support young people and encourage enterprise in the county.”
