On Saturday 25 June 2016 Councillor Simon Harris, the Mayor of Broseley, officially opened the long-awaited Broseley BMX track in Birchmeadow Park.

During the opening event, there will be a range of things for people to do. Clark and Kent will be giving a BMX demonstration, time trials around the track, and Clee Cycles of Bridgnorth will be showing a range of protective biking gear.

The idea for the BMX track had been discussed in the town for a number of years and it was highlighted as a priority by Broseley Town Council. Funding for the facility was secured by Shropshire Council and Broseley Town Council, and an in-depth consultation process followed, which informed the councils about the type of BMX facility users wanted.

Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:

“I am sure this enhancement of recreational facilities will bring many benefits to the area, including boosting the health and enjoyment of young people.”

Jean Jones, local Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:

“It’s brilliant to see this project come to fruition. I know that a lot of people in the town have been keen to have a BMX track for a long time and, judging by the feedback we’ve received, they are very happy with the facility.”

Trudi Barrett, Broseley Town Clerk, said:-

“The town council was approached by the young people of the town to ask if they could have a BMX track. Officers looked at potential funding opportunities. We are pleased to have worked in partnership with Shropshire Council on this long awaited facility, which we know is already being well used.”

The BMX track was built by Clark and Kent, who built the London Olympic track, so they have a proven track record in building quality facilities.
