Shropshire Libraries, working with Ignition CIC and Scrappies, has successfully bid to Arts Council England to run a summer creative arts programme for 11-14 year olds.

The programme, called “Picture This”, is offering a fabulous opportunity for young people to take part in two day workshops in the larger libraries throughout Shropshire during the summer break.

Annabel Gittins, Shropshire Council’s library commissioning manager, said:-

“We are delighted to be able to offer these workshops to young people in our libraries. Our successful bid to Arts Council England shows how much we can achieve when we work with partners.”

The libraries will be used as creative spaces to enable young people to take part in a high-quality, unique artistic experience. Participants will be able to take part in a wide range of creative activities such as set building, visual arts and drama working with professional artists. The work will be shared at the end of the workshop, and will also form part of an exhibition in Oswestry Library in September 2016. The exhibition will then tour other libraries during the autumn.

Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:

“Giving teenagers the opportunity to explore their creativity in these high-quality workshops demonstrates the commitment of libraries in reaching out to the whole community.”
