Eaton No 3 Bridge will be closed from Tuesday 3 May 2016 for up to 10 weeks to enable essential repairs to be carried out.

The bridge carries the carries the Eaton to Hardwick road over the River East Onny.

The work will involve removing the existing bridge deck and constructing a new reinforced concrete deck. The deck will utilise the existing abutments in order to minimise disruption to the public. The opportunity will also be taken to undertake bank reinstatement works upstream of the bridge.

The bridge must be closed to traffic while the work is being carried out as it is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with the bridge open to traffic.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Newton and the A489.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said:

It is appreciated that the need to close the bridge will cause some inconvenience. Everyone involved will do all they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
