Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing (STAR Housing) have been shortlisted for the UK Housing Awards 2016 in the category of Outstanding New Developer of the Year.
The shortlisting is in recognition for the complete transformation of the old Swan Lane site in Oswestry into the safe and vibrant community that residents can be proud of – Hignett Place.
Nicki Barker, Chair of the Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing board, said:
“The UK Housing Awards are highly prestigious so we are all delighted to have been have shortlisted.
“It is a testament to all of the hard work put in by our staff and partners in completely transforming not just an estate, but a community. The development underlines our commitment to building and maintaining affordable homes and safe and vibrant communities within Shropshire.”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this year’s awards attracted more than 250 entries from all over the UK.
STAR Housing are now one of just six left in the running for the Outstanding New Developer of the Year award.
STAR Housing, an Arms-Length Management Organisation (ALMO), are the only ALMO shortlisted in the category.

“The quality of the entries rose again this year so even to get this far is an amazing achievement. In the face of some really stiff competition, STAR Housing has shown it is performing at the highest level – well done!
“Being our 20th anniversary means the evening will be even more memorable and we have some great celebrations planned.”
The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on 26 April and impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner will present the awards.
