Wem and Shawbury Local Joint Committee (LJC) hold their next meeting on Tuesday 23 February at  7pm at Edinburgh House, Wem.  Agenda items include the future of council services; University Centre Shrewsbury; and £30,000 Everybody Active Every Day funding.

The evening will start with a presentation by Russ Millhouse, head of Secretariat & Student Support, University Centre Shrewsbury.  University Centre Shrewsbury was established to allow working professionals to experience higher education with more than 120 courses, 11 undergraduate and 6 graduate programs.

There will also be a presentation from Shropshire Council on the Big Conversation, providing information on the results of the consultation, how the council are going to meet the shortfall in funding from central government, and the future of services within Shropshire.

The final presentation will be from Miranda Ashwell, who will provide details of public health funding allocated as part of Shropshire’s Everybody Active Every Day community fund project, established to address physical inactivity. Up to £30,000 has been allocated to get residents of Wem active.

Councillor Simon Jones, chairman of the LJC, said:

“This is an opportunity for residents to come along and hear about the above topics: there will also be an opportunity for resident to raise any local issues with Shropshire Councillors and to suggest agenda items for future meetings.”

An update on crime and disorder in the area will also be provided by the local policing team.

This is an open public meeting, so everyone is more than welcome to attend.
