Dog fouling in Ludlow: “We’re Watching You” campaign
News from our partners Ludlow Town Council
Shropshire Council has joined forces with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy in a bid to reduce dog fouling in key problem areas throughout Shropshire.
An ‘edgy and uncompromising’ dog fouling campaign was launched in the Shropshire Council area in December 2015 aimed at dog walkers who don’t ‘scoop the poop’.
The campaign sets its sights on irresponsible dog owners, with recent research showing that dog walkers are more responsible and pick up after their dogs when they think they are being watched.
Ludlow Town Council is supporting the new campaign.
Feedback suggests that dog fouling tends to occur at night time and during months with shorter days, as some dog owners feel that they can’t be seen ‘under the cover of darkness’.
The signage, which displays a pair of illuminous eyes with the phrase “We’re Watching You”, has been designed to light up at night in order to stay visible in the dark when dog walkers are most likely to feel hidden.
Offenders are liable for a Fixed Penalty Notice charge of £75. Dog foul is not only the dirtiest and most unacceptable litter left by the most irresponsible in our community, it is also dangerous to health. Harmful infections such as toxocariasis can lead to blindness.
Problems relating to dog foul can be reported to Shropshire Council via their website shropshire.gov.uk/environmental-maintenance-and-enforcement or by calling customer services on 0345 678 9006.
