Over the coming weeks, we’ll be issuing people’s views and experiences about their Dry January 2016 challenge.

Today, Charlotte Cadwallader, Shropshire Council’s public health and well-being officer, encourages people to get involved:-

For many people, drinking small amounts of alcohol in moderation has little effect on their everyday lives. However, for some others, this moderate and occasional drinking can begin to become more routine, with larger than recommended amounts consumed during each sitting.

Dry January offers a chance to break the cycle of alcohol consumption and gives an opportunity to change habits and routine. Many people report they feel more energetic, lose weight and sleep better whilst undertaking Dry January, as well as saving quite a few pounds in the process.

If you’re still thinking of whether to take part, then why not give it a go? I’m sure you’ll be surprised by your experiences and the results you see.

The prospect of Dry January may not even seem too unwelcome; particularly when the season of excess is well underway. A clean January can be a clean start in all kinds of ways…
