Advice on staying well this winter at Shrewsbury Christmas event

Related topics: Community / Health / Leisure, culture and heritage / Partner organisations

Health and care organisations from across Shropshire are joining together at this weekend’s Shrewsbury Christmas event in The Quarry. Under the “Shropshire Together” banner, visitors will be able to find out more about services to support their health and well-being, and how to stay well this winter.

Shropshire Together, a partnership comprising of public, voluntary and community sector organisations, will be on hand to provide free health and well-being advice, and will have a ‘smoothie bike’ that visitors can try.

Organisations who will be present will include:

  • Shropshire Council’s public health team
  • Shropshire Council’s library service
  • People2People
  • Healthwatch Shropshire
  • Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group

Visitors will have the opportunity to try the ‘smoothie bike’ where you can use pedal power to blend your own Christmas berry smoothie.

Karen Calder, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health, said:

“It’s great to see our health and well-being services and teams working together to support people to stay healthy and well this winter. As the weather gets colder and viruses start to pass around, it’s important that people are prepared. This means getting your seasonal flu jab if you’re in an ‘at risk’ group, knowing how to treat common winter illnesses, and knowing where to go for help if you need it. I’d encourage people going to the event to find out more about the health and well-being services and the support that is available in the county and wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas.”
