Once again, the Shropshire Triathlon Standard (Olympic) Distance event has been selected by the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) as one of three qualifying events for the 2017 European Triathlon Union Championship.

Shropshire Council, along with the Ellesmere Triathlon Organising Committee, are pleased to announce that the Shropshire Triathlon, once again supported by TRI UK, will take place on Sunday 29 May 2016 in Cremorne Gardens, Ellesmere. With over 500 entries expected, the Shropshire Triathlon will be amongst one of the biggest sporting events held in north Shropshire, and will attract large numbers of spectators to this beautiful and atmospheric venue in Ellesmere.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for business and culture, said:-

“Shropshire Council and the organising committee this week gave thanks to the British Triathlon Federation for this opportunity to once again host this prestigious event, which will showcase this superb location and focus the triathlon world on Shropshire.”

In addition to the normal Standard (Olympic) Distance race, a Sprint Distance Triathlon will also take place.

The Shropshire Triathlon and Ellesmere Sprint Triathlon are both non-profit making events, which raise money for local and national charities. All the local organisations that help to run the event enjoy helping out, and we hope that the 2016 event will once again generate much needed funds for their various causes.

Entries will be open for BTF members from 9am Friday 2 October 2015, non-BTF members and relays will be open from 9am Friday 16 October, with the sprint entries opening from 9am Friday 23 October. Earlybird discount will commence from Friday 2 October and will run until Friday 13 November 2015.
