The annual Severn Bridges 10k Road Race and one-mile Fun Run in Shrewsbury took place last Sunday (20 September 2015), organised by Shropshire Council’s leisure services team.

The race started and finished at The Quarry, and attracted a record turnout of runners, with all 400 places were taken up. Runners came from across the country and it’s now a firm fixture in the road race calendar for many local athletes. This year was the 17th and most successful in the event’s history.

The first male runner to cross the line was Gabe Morris from Shrewsbury Athletics Club, who won in a time of 35min 34sec. The first female to cross the line was Olivia Papaioannou, who won in a time of 42min 20sec. A complete list of results and photos from the 10k Race and the Fun Run can be found on Shropshire Council’s website at https://shropshire.gov.uk/leisure/shrewsbury-severn-bridges-road-race-2015/.

33 people also took part in the one mile Fun Run around The Quarry. The Fun Run was won by Chester Romei, and the first female was Amber Parry.

Special thanks to all the staff that helped with the event, including the course marshals who were provided by Shropshire Shufflers.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for leisure services, said:-

“The event was a great success and we were pleased that it attracted a record number of entries. It was wonderful to see so many people in The Quarry coming to support the event and cheering on the runners. The provisional date for next year’s event is Sunday 18 September 2016.”
