People visiting Shrewsbury on Bank Holiday Monday (31 August 2015) will be able to park for just £1 in all Shropshire Council-run car parks.

The special rate has been introduced by Shropshire Council to encourage people to spend Bank Holiday in the town and visit its many shops, cafes, restaurants and other attractions.

The car parks included in the offer are:

  • Abbey Foregate, Raven Meadows Multi Storey, St Julian’s Friars and Frankwell Main long-stay car parks.
  • Bridge Street, Tannery and St Austin’s Street short-stay car parks.

In the long-stay car parks people can pay £1 and park all day.

In the short-stay car parks people can pay £1 and park for the maximum time allowed.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“Shrewsbury has a huge amount to offer to visitors on Bank Holiday Monday. I’m really pleased that we’re able to offer this £1 parking promotion to encourage people to visit, shop and eat in the town.”

Andrew Bannerman, Shropshire Councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, said:

“In this uncertain weather, Shrewsbury can be enjoyed inside and out by all the family. The Quarry park is at its best, the museum has a great Be an Archaeologist excavation, the shops and cafes offer a unique variety of goods and fine food. And just strolling through the historic streets and squares will yield beauties and curiosities galore.”

A ‘pay £1 to park in Shrewsbury on Sunday/bank holiday’ offer was introduced in June 2015.

This is the first time the £1 parking offer has applied on a bank holiday. It will also apply on all future bank holidays.
