Bridgnorth Endowed School footbridge work: temporary closure of B4373 road

Related topics: Community

The Bridgnorth Endowed School footbridge is to be replaced, and work will require the overnight closure of the B4373 road between the Innage Lane and Stanley Lane junctions in Bridgnorth.

The work will involve removal of the existing footbridge by mobile crane, and installation of a replacement footbridge by mobile crane.

The work is planned to take place overnight on Friday 14 August 2015 between 9pm and 7am Saturday 15 August, but the following Saturday and Sunday nights (22 and 23 August) have also been chosen for contingency in case of risk of high winds preventing the use of the mobile crane. Once this element of the work has been completed the closure and diversion signs will be removed.

The road must be closed to traffic while the work is being carried out as very large vehicles, used to transport the footbridges, will be blocking the highway while work is underway.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via the B4373, B4376 and A458.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport said:

“It is appreciated that the road closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

William Parr, a local Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts, said:-

“Work to replace the footbridge accessing the Bridgnorth Endowed School with Innage Lane car park should cause minimal disruption, as appropriate diversions are in place whilst this essential work is carried out overnight.”

Christian Lea, a local Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts, said:-

“I hope local residents will fully understand the need to close the road whilst the new footbridge is installed, and make appropriate travel arrangements if they are planning to go out for the evening.”
