A Pathway to Independence at the Shrewsbury Flower Show

Shrewsbury Flower Show presents beautiful garden designs put together by hard working individuals with a flair for foliage. However, this year’s event may be considered special for an alternate reason.

Shropshire Mind, a charity providing mental health support in the county, have teamed up with award winning garden designer, Carolyn Hardern, in an attempt to win the top prize at this year’s show which takes place on 14 and 15 August 2015.

However, the possibility of receiving a gold medal at the event is not the sole incentive. Shropshire Mind are using the fantastic event to help promote mental health at a top event with the team aiming to interact with over 10,000 individuals.

The garden, which is entitled “A Pathway to Independence”, is planning to be donated after the show to a Shropshire Care home provider, bringing even greater benefit and continuing the link and legacy of the garden after the show.

Shropshire Council helps to fund Shropshire Mind and many of the individuals supported by the charity frequently access mental health services throughout Shropshire.

Councillor Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services, said:

“The Shrewsbury Flower Show is always a great event and sees thousands of people visit the historic town. With Shropshire Mind taking part it allows them to spread the message of what they do. Their fantastic work providing mental health support should be made known to all those who need it, and the production of this garden is a step towards that.”
