Wilmington Bridge closure from 3 August 2015

Wilmington Bridge will be closed from Monday 3 August 2015 for up to two weeks to enable essential repairs to be carried out.

The bridge carries an unclassified road off the B4386 over the Aylesford Brook at Wilmington.

The work will involve the construction of new concrete aprons to prevent scour of the abutments.

The bridge must be closed to traffic while the work is being carried out, as it is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with the bridge open to traffic.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted locally via the B4386.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport said:

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
