A law firm has become the first ever corporate sponsor of Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery after agreeing a deal with Shropshire Council.

The pioneering partnership between the Council and Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors has been hailed as an important development for the museum which will help it host more high profile exhibitions in the future.

Lanyon Bowdler, which has branches all over Shropshire, will support the introduction in September of The Culture Club, a new bi-monthly breakfast networking event for businesses. They will also and sponsor the next blockbuster exhibition ‘Valhalla’ about The Vikings in January 2016 in the Special Exhibitions Gallery.

Senior partner at Lanyon Bowdler, Andrew Evans, said the firm was proud to support such an important facility for Shrewsbury and Shropshire as a whole.

He said:

“We were delighted to see the response from visitors to the first exhibition ‘Secret Egypt’ that we supported.

“More than 12,000 visitors came to see the wonderful treasures of Ancient Egypt and to have the name of Lanyon Bowdler linked to such a successful event was of great benefit to us.

“We have now agreed to enter in to a long-term relationship with Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery as its first corporate sponsor.”

From the Museum and Art Gallery’s perspective the relationship with Lanyon Bowdler is not just one of sponsorship, but access to legal expertise it can draw on to promote further engagement with commercial partners.

Councillor Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member with responsibility for museums, said:

“On behalf of the council I am very pleased to welcome Lanyon Bowdler on board as our first corporate partner.

“The success of ‘Secret Egypt’ proved that this kind of partnership between Shropsire Council and commercial partners can really make a difference.

“Now we can move the relationship on to a new level and I look forward to next year’s exhibition with great interest.”
