Reminder about road closures during Shrewsbury Half Marathon this Sunday

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Roads in and around Shrewsbury will be closed this Sunday (21 June 2015) when 2,500 people take part in this year’s Shrewsbury Half Marathon.

The race starts at 9.30am with roads being closed to traffic beforehand, for the set-up operation.

Roads will be reopened as the race progresses and when the last runners come through.

The event is expected to be complete by approximately 12.30pm.

The route will be the same as last year, however the direction is being changed so that the town centre is the first part of the 13.1 mile route – meaning this part of the route can be reopened to normal traffic sooner.

Thousands of people are expected to line the route and cheer the runners on. Those arriving by car are being reminded that all car parks are open as usual, with Abbey Forgate and Frankwell car parks the easiest ones to get to whilst the race is on.

And, although there will be some disruption to traffic, shops and businesses in the town will be open as usual.

Under a new promotion, people can pay £1 and park all day in the town centre’s long stay car parks on a Sunday – or pay £1 and park for the maximum time allowed in the short stay car parks.
