Chilton Bridge near Atcham closure from 1 June 2015

Chilton Bridge will be closed from Monday 1 June 2015 for up to a week, to enable essential repairs to be carried out.

The bridge carries the unclassified road between Cross Houses and Atcham.

The work involves general maintenance repairs to the bridge and replacement of the damaged approach barrier.

The bridge must be closed to traffic while the work is being carried out as it is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with the bridge open to traffic.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via the A458 and B4380.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the work.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, and local Shropshire Councillor for the area, said:

‘‘These repairs are essential for the safety of road users.

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
