Friar’s Street in Bridgnorth to be closed to traffic during 27 November 2014

Friar’s Street in Bridgnorth is to be closed to traffic for one day, Thursday 27 November 2014, between 9.30am and 4pm.

The road closure is required to carry out a safety inspection of the rockface between two brick retaining walls, and it may be necessary to remove loose debris and cut back any obstructing vegetation.

The closure and inspection was previously scheduled for Monday 3 November, but had to be postponed because of a car parked inside an already coned-off area.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via the Riverside, but access will remain available to pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“For the safety of the workers and road users we’ll need to close off the section of the road where we’ll be working on the day.  This is essential work which needs to be carried out, but the closure will only be in place for the day, to minimise any disruption it might cause.”

Christian Lea, a local Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts, said:

“I hope that local residents will understand the need for Friar’s Street to be closed for the day, whilst this inspection of the rockface is undertaken.”
