Free parking and Park & Ride in Shrewsbury for late night Christmas shoppers

Shropshire Council is offering shoppers in Shrewsbury free parking and free travel on the town’s Park & Ride on Wednesday nights in the run-up to Christmas – starting on Wednesday 19 November.

Shrewsbury’s Christmas lights switch-on celebration on Wednesday 19 November marks the launch of late-night shopping for 2014 in the town. On that day, and every Wednesday up until Christmas, from 4pm people can either travel for free on Park & Ride, or park for free in the following council-owned long-stay car parks

  • Frankwell Main
  • St. Julian’s Friars
  • Abbey Foregate

The Shrewsbury Park & Ride service operates from Harlescott, Meole Brace and Oxon sites and will run every 15 minutes until 9pm on a Wednesday evening. All journeys starting after 4pm on the Park & Ride will be free.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“I am really pleased to be able to offer a choice of free parking or free Park & Ride, to enable more people to enjoy the celebrations on Wednesday nights and to help support the town centre traders who are offering late night shopping in the run up to Christmas.”

Participating car parks are Frankwell Main, Abbey Foregate and St Julian’s Friars.

The offer is valid on Wednesdays 19 November, 26 November, 3 December, 10 December and 17 December 2014.

The last Park & Ride buses leave the town centre at 9pm and the gates at the Park and Ride sites will be locked at approximately 9.30pm.

The last buses leave the Park and Ride sites for Shrewsbury town centre at 8.45pm.
