News from our partners Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing

Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing have awarded a grant of £350 of their Community Chest Fund to support an exciting initiative to invest in and improve planting schemes to brighten up the Bridgnorth local area for the benefits of all residents.

The initiative – organised by Pauline Harris of The Grove and Lodge Farm Partnership – is part of Bridgnorth in Bloom, and will see pupils of St Mary’s Primary School’s Gardening Club work together in designing and planting seasonal flowers for the community to enjoy.

The official planting of the flowers will be on Tuesday 11 November 2014 at 3.30pm outside the Mid-Counties Co-op, Lodge Lane, Bridgnorth.

The event has seen the community come together with the Mid-Counties Co-op – who sponsor the initiative, with members of The Grove and Lodge Farm Partnership, children from St Mary’s School Gardening Club, and Bridgnorth Town Council, all offering their support.

Christian Lea, Shropshire Councillor, and Chairman of The Grove and Lodge Farm Partnership, said:

“Having been awarded a grant of £350 from Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing’s Community Chest, I am delighted that the Mid-Counties Co-Op, members of The Grove and Lodge Farm Partnership, children from St Mary’s School Gardening Club and Bridgnorth Town Council are all lending a hand to plant winter flowers in the planters outside the Mid-Counties Co-Op, which will brighten up the local area over the winter for the benefit of residents.”

Pauline Harris, resident member of the Partnership, said:

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the pupils of St Mary’s to present their gardening skills into the local community – giving joy for all to see.  It’s really exciting that an initiative like this has brought together so many areas of the local community.  I’d like to thank Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing for the £350 grant that allowed this scheme to go ahead.

“Produce grown at the school will be sold at the Christmas Fayre.  Well done pupils of St Mary’s School.”

The Grove and Lodge Partnership are holding a meeting that will take place on Wednesday 26 November 2014 at 9.30am at St James Hall and all residents are welcome to attend.
