Bromford opens new supported housing development to help those with learning disabilities

People have already started to move into Normandy Place in Liverpool Road, Whitchurch, which has been designed and built by Bromford’s experienced construction team.  The scheme offers nine one-bedroom apartments and one resource apartment, with a full-time support worker.

Catherine Ashley, Bromford’s service manager, said:

“This is our first supported housing accommodation of its kind in Whitchurch, and provides people with their first step to independent living.  Having your own front door and independence is something that we believe everyone should be able to aspire to, regardless of health or ability.”

Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“Apartments like these are a great way to encourage people with learning disabilities to lead an independent life, and we already have a number of similar sites across the county which have been very successful.

“This development will provide a comfortable and supportive home for nine people, who I’m sure will be delighted to be living their own life in their own community.”

Normandy Place has been specifically designed with customers’ needs in mind, and to provide a safe and secure home.  The aim is to raise aspirations by providing someone with a learning disability the chance to take control of their life, live independently, reduce dependency and harness opportunities.
