Malehurst No 1 Bridge to close for essential repairs

Malehurst No 1 Bridge, which carries the Malehurst to Asterley Road, is to be closed to traffic for three days between the hours of 8am and 4pm from Monday 27 October 2014 to Wednesday 29 October 2014, to enable repairs to be carried out to it.

The work will involve repairing the accident-damaged parapet, general maintenance and clearance of vegetation.

Unfortunately, due to the narrow nature of the bridge, it is not possible to carry out some of the proposed work safely without closing the bridge to traffic.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via the B4387, Minsterley and the A488.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

‘‘This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

‘’It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
