Love Your Bike Month rolls on throughout Shropshire this October

Related topics: Community / Health / Leisure, culture and heritage

As we enter the second half of October, Shropshire’s fifth annual Love Your Bike Month continues at pace. There are still lots of great free activities coming up in the second half of the month to help Shropshire residents have fun on their bikes and prepare themselves for winter cycling.

This weekend saw a family bike ride along the riverside from Bridgnorth to Coalport and coming up in half-term, Sustrans Bike It officers are running learn to ride sessions in Oswestry and Shrewsbury and a family fix your bike session in Oswestry. Spaces are limited so you should book online at the Travel Shropshire website to avoid missing out.

Other fun family activities during half-term include the Halloween cycling party at Shrewsbury Sports Village on Friday 31 October, featuring a sunset ride around the cycle track, Dr Bike safety checks, face painting and lots of ghoulish games. The cycle safari on Thursday 30 October is a fun family cycle ride around Colemere with a nature guide from the Meres and Mosses landscape partnership. On Sunday 26 October there is also a family bike ride between Pontesbury and Minsterley and a Cycling Oswestry Gently (COG) ride in Oswestry.

Throughout October, residents of Shropshire can sign up at the Travel Shropshire website: www.travelshropshire.co.uk/love-your-bike to receive a free winter cycling pack from Shropshire Council*. Our useful winter cycling packs include a pair of bike lights, reflective items and a seat cover.

For those who haven’t been on a bike for a while or can’t cycle, October is a great time to start! Pedal for Health taster sessions at Shrewsbury Sports Village on 22 and 29 October 2014 include bicycle try-outs, short rideabouts and a cycle surgery for any questions about bikes and cycling. Weekly Pedal in the Park beginners’ cycle rides in Shrewsbury continue every Wednesday morning until 5 November. These are a fun, easy, social way to get back to cycling. In addition, Shropshire Council offers free one-to-one cycle training for adults*. Request online at: http://travelshropshire.co.uk/training.
