Beambridge Bridge to close for essential repairs

Beambridge Bridge, which carries the Aston on Clun to Beambridge road over the River Clun, is to be closed to traffic on Monday 27 October 2014 for up to two weeks to enable repairs to be carried out to it.

The work will involve general maintenance and rebuilding the bridge’s parapet, which has been hit by an unknown passing vehicle.

Unfortunately, due to the narrow nature of the bridge, it is not possible to carry out the proposed work safely without closing the bridge to traffic.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via Clunbury.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

‘‘This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

‘’It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

David Evans, a local Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, said:

“This is part of a rolling programme of bridge repairs: it is good to see that Shropshire Council have taken these schemes on board.  Prevention of further damage is always better than letting bills escalate by leaving things to drag on.”
