“Playday” is a celebration of children’s right to play, and a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.

“Playday” week commences Monday 4 August 2014, and play events will be held at the following venues:-

  • Monday 4 August – Craven Arms Community Centre – 11am – 3pm
  • Tuesday 5 August – Monkmoor Recreation Ground, Shrewsbury – 11am – 3pm
  • Wednesday 6 August – The Venue, Park Hall, Oswestry – 11am – 3pm (in partnership with The New Saints FC Foundation)
  • Thursday 7 August – Grove School, Market Drayton – 11am – 3pm
  • Friday 8 August – Crown Meadow Playing Field, Bridgnorth – 11am – 3pm.

Playday week is open to children of all ages and their families and it’s free to attend. No pre-booking is necessary so just turn up and play.  Activities will include face-painting, arts and crafts, sports, games and much more.

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:-

“Playday is a great initiative to get children and communities playing, whilst also finding out about other local services available to them. The campaign is all about making everyone feel welcome and part of their communities.

“Play day has proven a popular and successful event over the last few years, so again leisure services shall be hosting events around the county for Shropshire residents to go along and join the fun.”

At the events, Change4Life will also be highlighting their newly launched campaign “10-Minute Shake Up”.  Working with Disney, the campaign has designed a pack which is to encourage children to have fun and move more this summer.
