Over the last three months primary schools across north Shropshire have been competing against one another in various sports as part of the Sainsbury’s School Games programme.

Schools have had the opportunity to compete and participate in dodgeball, orienteering, arrows archery, tri-golf, mini-tennis, rounders and new age kurling, to name a few.  Winning schools from each of the competitions will now go on to represent north Shropshire at the Shropshire Homes School Sport Festival, as part of Sainsbury’s School Games, which is taking place at Shrewsbury Sports Village on the Wednesday 2 July 2014.

Over 170 students have taken part in competitions, and the following schools have qualified to attend the festival next week:

  • Hinstock Primary
  • Bomere Heath Primary
  • Ellesmere Primary
  • Adderley Primary
  • St Peter’s Primary, Wem
  • Woore Primary
  • Nesscliffe Primary
  • Cheswardine Primary.

At the festival, north Shropshire schools will get to compete with other primary schools from east Shropshire, south Shropshire, Shrewsbury, and Telford.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“I would like to congratulate the teams that have been successful in qualifying, and wish them the best of luck for next Wednesday.”
