Ellesmere Day Centre looks to work more closely with local community

The Meres Day Centre in Ellesmere is asking people for their thoughts on how the centre and the local community can work together – to benefit centre users, local people and the town as a whole.

The centre is encouraging people to visit its spring fair and open day on Friday 20 June 2014 from 10am to 3pm, to see its new coffee shop and Internet area, and to volunteer to help with the activities that the centre provides.

Owned by Shropshire Council, Meres Day Centre is located on Trimpley Street, and shares a building with the town’s community nursing home.

It offers a day service for older people and adults with learning disabilities, but is now looking to work more closely with the wider community. The open day is a chance for people to find out more and see what the centre has to offer.

Visitors to the open day will also be asked for their ideas on how the centre and the local community can work together.

Items from other day services will be on sale, and there will also be a raffle.

Ann Hartley, local Shropshire Councillor for Ellesmere Urban, said:

“Meres Day Centre is a hugely important facility in Ellesmere.  We want it to be a vibrant, popular and increasingly important part of the local community and for people from Ellesmere and the surrounding area to visit it, use it, and volunteer to help with its activities.

“This open day is a fantastic opportunity for people to see what the centre has to offer – including the new coffee shop and Internet area – but also to suggest ways that it can work even more closely with the local community.

“It’s also hugely important that the centre thrives, as the rent it pays to the community nursing home provides vital funding for the nursing home.

“I hope to see as many people as possible come along to the open day on Friday, and hope people will visit and use the coffee shop and computers throughout the year.”
