Shropshire Council has welcomed today’s announcement from the county’s leading healthcare organisations to ensure health services across the county are fit for purpose

Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group, and Shropshire’s NHS Trusts are urging people to get involved and help shape the Future Fit programme which aims to improve hospital and community services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and mid Wales.

The Future Fit Programme is a partnership between hospitals, the local clinical commissioning groups who have responsibility for buying health services on behalf of local patients, public, local councils and others from the population area served.

Councillor Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council said;

“We very much welcome today’s announcement from Shropshire’s CCG’s and NHS trusts. The approach appears very logical and we should work together to get the best for our county. We clearly recognise the Future Fit Programme needs to be led by clinicians and are keen to allow the working group to develop the next stages of work without political interference.”

Professor Rod Thomson, Director for Public Health at Shropshire Council added;

“Today’s announcement is a positive step forward to find the best solution to provide our residents with the best and safest healthcare system and to ensure services across the region are fit for purpose.

“We are very happy to support the approach our health colleagues are taking and that patients and the community at large are at the heart of this work.”
