New council tax e-billing service available now for sign up

Shropshire Council is now offering residents the opportunity to receive their council tax bills online through the new e-billing service on the Shropshire Council website.  The e-billing service will allow residents to have their council tax bill emailed directly to them instead of receiving a paper copy through the post.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for resources, finance and support, said:

“The move to develop the e-billing option brings great benefits for residents as it allows them to pick it up on the move, if they are on holiday for example, and to avoid any danger of losing the bill in the spring clean.

“For the council it means there can be great savings on printing and posting, when people sign up for e-billing.  For every 3,000 people who sign up to e-billing, £1,500 can be saved on postage costs alone.  When the costs of printing and paper are added to that, it begins to mount up.

“I really think this is a win-win situation for both residents and the council.”

The council are due to start annual billing on 27 February 2014, so if you would like to sign up for e-billing you will need to do so before then.  You can sign up here.  You will need your Council Tax Account Reference to sign up – this can be found on your last council tax bill.

If there are two or more people named on your latest council tax bill then you can either get their authorisation to have the bill emailed to your chosen email address, or they can request a separate e-bill to be emailed to their email address.  They will need to register a separate account to do this.  If neither of these are completed, we are required to post a separate paper bill, alongside an e-bill, to your address.

If you have any questions about any aspect of the new e-billing service, you can contact Shropshire Council on 0345 678 9002 or by emailing council.tax@shropshire.gov.uk.
