People living in social housing which is no longer suitable for them are being invited to two ‘home swap’ events being organised by Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing.

The events are aimed at people who are looking for a new property because their current home is either under-occupied or overcrowded, or if they are being affected by bedroom tax and want to downsize.

There are two events – the first is at The Centre, in Oak Street, Oswestry, on Wednesday 26 February 2014, and the second at Westgate, Bridgnorth, on Thursday 27 February 2014.

Both events will run from 2pm to 6pm and are open to any tenants of a social landlord with the right to mutually exchange.

Chris Shepherd, Neighbourhoods Manager at Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, said:

“Tenants are warmly invited to come along for an informal chat about their options.

“There are a number of homes available for mutual exchange, including Severnside Housing and Shropshire Housing Group properties, and these events are a great opportunity to get the home you need.”

Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing, added:

“As well as helping tenants to get the right home for them, these events help us ensure that every property is being used to its maximum capacity, which is important for everyone on the housing waiting list.

“I would encourage anyone interested to come along.”
