National Libraries Day

Libraries in Shropshire will be celebrating National Libraries Day on Saturday 8 February 2014, when library users new and old are being encouraged to go along to their local library and find out about the great services on offer – from book loans and homework clubs, to information about starting a business and how to get online.

Even if people can’t get to a library they can still access a range of services through library websites.

Many libraries in Shropshire are marking the day with special displays and events showcasing special services, such as local and family history, children’s rhymetimes, craft sessions for all ages, book advice and poetry, and creative writing to share.  Some libraries will also have talks by authors or appearances by book characters; check out the events page on the library service website http://new.shropshire.gov.uk/libraries/events/

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:

“We are delighted to offer a wide range of events for all ages and all tastes in Shropshire on National Libraries Day.  A week of events leads up to a great day of celebrations, all about reading, libraries and librarians around the UK on Saturday 8 February.”
