Help someone maintain their independence this Christmas

If you’re stuck for ideas for Christmas gifts this year, Shropshire Council’s adult services team is inviting you to try something a bit different.

There are a wide variety of gadgets and ideas available to help keep people independent and safe, so why not help to genuinely improve someone’s quality of life rather than getting them a box of chocolates this Christmas?

Shropshire Council is in partnership with providers of assistive technology who supply a range of helpful items, such as adapted kitchen utensils, safety detectors, computer accessories and other items that simply make life a little easier.

Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“Having the right gadgets and technology around the house can help someone live at home for longer, ensure their safety, and potentially avoid the need for residential care.

“The range of items available now is quite amazing: from sensors that detect if someone is using their bed, to gadgets that magnify a computer screen.  Many people may not realise what help is out there, so it’s worth looking to see what’s available.”
