Closure of London Road, Shrewsbury

Related topics: Uncategorized

Shropshire Council is reminding motorists that London Road will be closed from Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November as the final phase of the road work is completed. A diversion route will be signed along Wenlock Road and Thieves Lane so traffic can avoid the surfacing works between Prestfelde School and Shrewsbury College.

The works to improve the road surface, water drainage and replace extensive lengths of kerbing started in early October and were planned so the surfacing works – where the road would need to closed – would coincide with the quietest period over half-term.

The council will make every effort to allow access to properties, however with the type of work taking place there may be periods of long delays. A letter drop will take place along the route, providing a detailed programme of the works on a day-by-day basis, to ensure those affected most are well informed and have the most accurate information in advance.

The works will be timed to avoid the busiest periods of the day and minimise disruption by taking between 9.30am and 4.00pm. Shropshire Council has endeavoured to limit the impact to residents and road users as much as practicably possible.

The completed works will provide a significantly improved running surface to all road users as well as resolving the existing surface water drainage issues. The contractor for the works is Ringway and the consultant is Mouchel.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for transport, said:

“We’ve planned these works so this final phase would be completed during half-term to minimise impact on motorists using the road. We’d like to thank those affected for their understanding while these important works take place.”
