Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion campaign, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a variety of events taking place in Shropshire.

The Shrewsbury Action Against Racism (SAAR) partnership has this year teamed up with Shropshire Council, Shropshire FA and Shrewsbury Town FC to extend the programme over the whole of the 2013/14 season.

Schools from across Shropshire will benefit from the Kick It Out initiative through coaching sessions, talks, and question and answer sessions with football players.

There is also the opportunity for any team from across Shropshire to enter the annual Kick It Out Cup tournament on Tuesday 29 October 2013 at Shrewsbury Sports Village, starting at 6pm.

The tournament is for six-a-side and mixed teams, and anyone wishing to enter a team can contact Steve Cunningham, Shropshire Council’s senior community action officer, on 01743 252361.

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for equalities and diversity, said:

“The Kick It Out Cup provides teams with the opportunity to play a friendly game of football and to support a fantastic initiative that celebrates inclusive communities.”

Meanwhile, Shropshire FA and Shrewsbury Town FC have teamed up to offer the following Kick It Out prizes to three lucky winners:

  • First prize – Two tickets to the England v Germany friendly on 19 November 2013 at Wembley Stadium.
  • First runner-up – Two tickets to England U21 v San Marino U21 on 19 November 2013 at Greenhous Meadow.
  • Second runner-up – Two tickets to a Shrewsbury Town home league match.

To be in with a chance of winning one of these prizes, you just have to answer the following question:

c) 30 years

Send your answer to Steve Cunningham, Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND or email steve.cunningham@shropshire.gov.uk.
