A458 reopens ahead of schedule

The road closure at Venus Bank on the A458, between Cressage and Cross Houses, was removed on Friday 11 October 2013, and the road reopened two weeks ahead of schedule.

Shropshire Council’s contractors, Ringway, and consultants, Mouchel, worked hard to find ways to speed up the work, and worked longer days and weekends to reduce the disruption of the road closure.  Shropshire Council would like to thank those motorists for their patience whilst using the diversion routes.

The completed flood alleviation scheme has provided a much-needed system to tackle any future floods on the road and reduce the risk of future road closures due to flooding.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, and local Shropshire Councillor for Severn Valley, said:

“I would like to thank the contractors for completing these works two weeks early.  I would also thank all the local residents, bus passengers and businesses from the surrounding villages for their patience whilst the A458 was closed.”
