Suggestions invited for Young People’s Scrutiny Committee

Related topics: Community / Democracy

People are invited to put forward suggestions for topics to be discussed at future meetings of Shropshire Council’s Young People’s Scrutiny Committee.

Councillor Joyce Barrow, chair of the committee, is reminding people that they can bring forward ideas for subjects that they would like to place the spotlight on.  She said:

“As part of wider scrutiny changes, the committee has changed its name and remit, from the Safe and Confident Communities Scrutiny Committee, to the Young People’s Scrutiny Committee.

“The committee covers young people and children’s services: transformation and safeguarding; education; the work of the Members of Youth Parliament; youth services and young people’s and children’s health.

“We are developing our work programme and would urge people to get in contact if they have anything that they would like to bring to our attention, that falls within these areas, and that they feel should be scrutinised.

“We can investigate specific issues, including calling organisations to account, and make recommendations on the way that services are provided, to ensure that children and young people benefit from effective support.”

The next meeting of the committee will take place on Monday 14 October 2013 at 1.30pm in the Shrewsbury Room, Shirehall, Shrewsbury.

To put suggestions or questions to the committee please contact Anne Cousins, committee officer, on 01743 252743 or email anne.cousins@shropshire.gov.uk.
