Related topics: Community

A professional storyteller will bring tales to life with music, puppets and play at Shropshire Council’s Morda Sure Start Children’s Centre next month.

Families with children under five years old are invited to join in with fun stories, rhymes and songs, play with a selection of toys, both indoor and outdoor, and meet other families at an event on Monday 7 October 2013.

The Songs, Stories and Rhymes event will take place at the children’s centre, on the Morda CE Primary School site (SY10 9NR), from 9.15am to 11.15am.

Parents can also chat to support workers for advice and information about children’s centre membership, and what other groups and services are available in the area.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“I hope that lots of families can come along to enjoy the fun and captivating stories, rhymes and music, and the opportunities on offer to play together and meet other families.

“They can also find out more about the wide range of services available from children’s centres to meet their needs, bringing together early education, health and family support.”

Joyce Barrow, local Shropshire councillor for St Oswald, said:

“I would encourage parents of young children to take advantage of what promises to be a really enjoyable and fun morning.  It is also an opportunity to make new friends in the community.  I am really pleased that this event is taking place in Morda, and look forward to many more events.”

Free Stay and Play sessions for families with children under five also take place at the Morda children’s centre on Mondays, from 9.15am to 11.30am, and Wednesdays, from 1pm to 3pm, throughout the year.

In addition, children’s centre support workers can provide a range of support and information to families, both in groups and at home, if needed.

Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services provide a wide range of activities and support for families throughout Shropshire.
