News from our partners Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing

Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing has recently appointed a Financial Inclusion Officer to help tenants in financial hardship.

Caroline Morris will be working with colleagues and tenants of Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing to tackle and overcome financial problems and obstacles faced by tenants such as:

  • No access to money and debt advice
  • Low levels of financial awareness and financial literacy
  • No bank account
  • No insurance
  • No savings
  • No access to affordable credit
  • No confidence in money management
  • No access to affordable energy.

Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing’s financial inclusion service aims to bring tenants much-needed peace of mind and help them to turn their financial situation around, especially during this period of welfare reform.

Tenants will be supported through a mix of one-to-one advocacy, attending self-help workshops and signposting to other relevant support agencies.

Caroline Morris said:

“The aim of our financial inclusion service is to identify and support tenants who may be suffering financial hardship and, as a consequence, could be at risk of losing their home.

“We want our tenants to feel supported when dealing with a problem, helping them to prioritise issues, supporting them in accessing help from other agencies, and ultimately helping them to maintain their tenancy.

“We offer free advice, personal visits, and opportunities for budgetary training to our tenants.  If you are having difficulty paying your rent, or are struggling with bills and debt, don’t ignore it.  Please call us and we can help you get back on track.”

If you are a Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing tenant and feel that you would benefit from this service please contact Caroline on 07582 005479.
