Disappointment for Gatacre Recreation Ground Project Group

Related topics: Community

The Gatacre Recreation Ground Project Group in Oswestry has been informed by Sport England that they have been unsuccessful in their attempt to secure funding to replace the Gatacre pavilion, and make improvements to the junior football pitch at the popular recreation ground.

The group secured funding from the Local Joint Committee to undertake a feasibility study and local community consultations on the proposal, and entered an application to Sport England’s Inspired Facilities grant scheme.  Unfortunately, the application was unsuccessful, in what was a highly competitive scheme, with 1,075 applicants bidding for more than four times the amount available.

Vince Hunt, Gatacre Recreation Ground Project Group chairman, said:

“We are very disappointed with the decision by Sport England not to support the Gatacre proposal, which we believed would have provided the stimulus for greater sporting and community use.”

A further meeting of the group will take place in late September 2013 to discuss any future proposals to improve the facilities for the local community at Gatacre Recreation Ground.
