A range of fun activities will be on offer for families with children under five in and around Ellesmere on Tuesday 20 August 2013 at Ellesmere Children’s Centre, Ellesmere Primary School, on Elson Road.

The free ‘Get Active’ event is from 10am – 2pm and is being organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services.

There will be a host of activities to take part in including music and movement, Forest Fun, outdoor games and stories and rhymes.  Bob the Shropshire Play Bus will also be at the event.  You can bring a picnic with you.  Older siblings are also welcome to attend with their families.

Sure Start children’s centre services aims to promote services to families with children under five in the local area.  The service supports children’s learning and development and encourages healthy lifestyles.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, and local councillor for Ellesmere Urban, said:

“Our Sure Start children’s centre services provide many opportunities for Ellesmere families with children under five to take part in free fun activities to support healthy lifestyles.

“The ‘Get Active’ event is a great way to get young ones out and about.  Play is an essential part of a child’s learning and development, as well as being enjoyable for parents and carers.  I would encourage local families to come along, take part and have some fun.”

Parents will also be able to access information and advice from local children’s centre support workers about Sure Start children’s centre membership, and what other groups and services are available in their local area.

The event will also be promoting the NHS Change for Life programme.

Sure Start children’s services also run a weekly Stay and Play group at Ellesmere. The sessions are free of charge.
