Teddy Bears Picnic at Prescott Fields Park, Baschurch

Families with young ones under five are in for a big surprise down at Prescott Fields Park, Baschurch on Thursday 1 August 2013.

Young families are being invited to come along to a Teddy Bears Picnic at the park from 11am – 1pm, where a range of fun activities will be on offer including a bear treasure hunt, teddy bear coffee shop, parachute games, and a special ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ story.

The free event is being organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services, and is one of the many activities Baschurch Children’s Centre is hosting over the summer holidays.

Sure Start children’s centre services aims to promote services to families with children under five in the local area.  The service supports children’s learning and development, and encourages healthy lifestyles.

The event will also offer an opportunity for parents and carers to find out more about what children’s centres offer in Baschurch, how to become a member. and find out what other groups and services are available in their local area. 

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“Our Sure Start children’s centre services provide many opportunities for families with children under five to take part in free fun activities to support healthy lifestyles.

“So come and join us in Prescott Fields Park for what promises to be a lovely day of fun for the family.  Don’t forget to bring your picnic and your teddy bear.”

Nick Bardsley, local Shropshire Councillor for Ruyton and Baschurch, added:

“The Sure Start centre is a great asset for Baschurch.  The picnic on Thursday is open for all parents locally – and it looks as if the warm weather might be back for the end of the week.  You don’t want to miss it.”

Sure Start children’s centre services also run a weekly Stay and Play group at Baschurch Children’s Centre next to the village hall.  The free Stay and Play sessions for families with under-fives take place on Thursdays throughout the year on Thursdays 9.15am-11.15am, and Bumps to Babies for expectant families, and families with babies up to 18 months, on Wednesdays 1.30pm-3.30pm.

Alex Klages, children’s centre area leader – north west, also commented:

“Please join us for a fun picnic and activities, and meet children’s centre staff who can tell you about other free activities you can take part in throughout the year.”
