Hyssington Marsh Bridge repairs in July

Hyssington Marsh Bridge, which carries the unclassified road from Hyssington Marsh over the River West Onny to the Appletree junction with the A488, is to be closed to allow repairs to be carried out to the bridge.

The road will now be closed at the bridge on Thursday 11 July 2013 to enable a local farm to complete its silage harvest before the bridge is closed. It was originally due to close on Monday 8 July.

It is anticipated to take up to two weeks to complete the work, which will be carried out by Ringway on behalf of Shropshire Council.

The repair work that we need to carry out is to fill in scour damage to the upstream headwall and abutments.  The work will involve placing concrete to fill the scour and form a new invert through the bridge.

Unfortunately, for the work to be carried out safely and due to the narrow width of the road, it is not possible to keep the bridge open for vehicles to use while the repairs are carried out.  However, there will be access for pedestrians, cyclists and horses to pass while the work is carried out.

When the road is closed there will be a signed diversion route taking traffic around to the south of the bridge using the unclassified roads and the A488.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“Everyone involved will do all that they can to complete the repairs as soon as is reasonably possible.’’
