Bridge repair work near Cleobury Mortimer at end of July

Lea Cottages Bridge on Catherton Road, just north of Cleobury Mortimer, is to be closed in order to carry out repairs to the bridge.

The road will be closed at the bridge from Monday 29 July 2013 and the work is anticipated to take up to three weeks to complete. The work will be repairing scour damage to the bridge, and carried out by Ringway on behalf of Shropshire Council.

Unfortunately, for the work to be carried out safely and due to the narrow width of the road, it is not possible to keep the bridge open for vehicles to use while the repairs are carried out.  However, there will be access for pedestrians, cyclists and horses to pass while the work takes place.

When the road is closed there will be a signed diversion route taking traffic around, using Catherton Road to Cleobury Mortimer and then west along the A4117 to the Hollywaste crossroads, then back along Common Lane to the crossroads with Catherton Road, and also in reverse.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

‘‘It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.’’

Madge Shineton, a local Shropshire Councillor for Cleobury Mortimer, said:

“We are well aware of the inconvenience this will cause, but small bridges in our area suffered considerable damage  with the flooding in the last few years, and especially in 2012.  We will do all we can to repair this one as quickly as possible.”
