Two prominent Shropshire business people have become the latest members of the Shropshire Business Board.

Shaun Carvill, 50, Managing Director of Bridgnorth-based Clickingmad Ltd, and Nick Scott, 40, Chief Executive of Oswestry-based J-Ross Developments Ltd,  joined the Board at its meeting last night (Monday 15 April 2013).

Established in June 2008, the Business Board provides private sector-led advice to Shropshire Council on economic development matters, to ensure business views are taken into account when the council is developing economic policy.  It is now jointly implementing the new Shropshire Economic Growth Strategy to 2026.

Shaun and Nick – who are both already Shropshire Business Ambassadors – will contribute to helping to deliver Business Board actions to boost the economic prosperity of Shropshire, and helping businesses to create new jobs and increase productivity.

Shaun said:

“I feel honoured to promote Shropshire as a business-focussed county as well as a wonderful place to live.  My company has always traded from Bridgnorth and still has its head office there.  I hope that as a Board member I can use my experience with the Internet and IT to assist Shropshire to move forward into the digital age.”

Nick said:

“I am delighted to have been invited to join the Shropshire Business Board, to represent J-Ross Developments Ltd and the wider Pickstock Group of companies.  I very much hope to be able to make a positive contribution to the Board and to assist with the delivery of the Economic Growth Strategy for Shropshire.”

Mark Pembleton, Shropshire Council’s business and enterprise manager, said:

“I am really pleased that these two prominent individuals from the Shropshire business community have agreed to join the Board.  I’m sure that they will play a valuable role in helping the Board to deliver the action plan and grow our economy.”

Founded in 2000, Clickingmad Ltd provides websites to businesses.  Clients have included Argos, Virgin Direct, GFK NOP and many national charities, as well as many companies in the Shropshire and the West Midlands region.

As well as running his business Shaun is also on the board of UKITA, the United Kingdom IT Association which serves to promote the interests of businesses working within the IT sector.  He is also an established Internet expert and speaks at many events and business gatherings on the uses of the web.

J-Ross Developments Ltd was established in 1996 and is involved in delivering development projects across the UK, within both the commercial and residential property sectors.  The company is part of the Pickstock Group, a private family-owned group of companies, which have a wider range of interests in food processing, manufacturing, construction, property development and investment.

Nick Scott is a Chartered Surveyor with over 18 years experience of the commercial and residential property markets in the UK. He returned to live in Shropshire in 2002 when he joined J-Ross Developments Ltd from London Transport Property’s Development Team.

The Shropshire Business Board meets quarterly as a whole group, with smaller sub-groups meeting more regularly to drive key action plans.

The Shropshire Business Ambassador scheme was launched in 2007 and now has 29 members.  Each has been selected on the basis of their profile in Shropshire and, in some cases, in the national or international business world, and through having expressed a keen interest in promoting Shropshire.
