Reminder about Christmas waste collection arrangements

Shropshire Council and their contractor Veolia are reminding all residents that there will be changes to the refuse, garden waste and recycling collection dates due to the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

For most households, collections will take place a day later than usual; however, some residents will see that their collections are actually earlier than they might have expected.

All these dates are already clearly marked on the annual calendar delivered to all households, and residents have also received an extra Christmas 2012 reminder leaflet which also shows the collection date changes.

Anyone who is in doubt can doublecheck their waste collection dates online at shropshire.gov.uk/binday.

The collection date changes are as follows:

  • ‘Due’ date: Mon 24 Dec – collection will be Sat 22 Dec
  • ‘Due’ date Tues 25 Dec – collection will be Mon 24 Dec
  • ‘Due’ date Wed 26 Dec – collection will be Thurs 27 Dec
  • ‘Due’ date Thurs 27 Dec – collection will be Fri 28 Dec
  • ‘Due date Fri 28 Dec – collection will be Sat 29 Dec
  • ‘Due’ date Mon 31 Dec – collection will still be Mon 31 Dec as normal
  • ‘Due’ date Tues 1 Jan – collection will be Wed 2 Jan
  • ‘Due’ date Wed 2 Jan – collection will be Thurs 3 Jan
  • ‘Due’ date Thurs 3 Jan – collection will be Fri 4 Jan
  • ‘Due’ date Fri 4 Jan – collection will be Sat 5 Jan.

The household recycling centres in Bridgnorth, Craven Arms, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch will be open as usual over the festive period from 9am to 5pm every day, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when they will be closed.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for waste management, said:

“We want to remind everyone to check their calendar or visit our online collection day finder to make sure bins and boxes are out for collection on the correct day during the holiday period, and to avoid the disappointment of missing a collection.”

Donald Macphail, Regional Director for Veolia, added:

“All these day changes are clearly highlighted on your calendars and on the reminder leaflet that our crews have delivered to all homes.  We have scheduled these changes to keep the period of disruption to a minimum.”

All waste collections will return to their normal patterns by Monday 7 January 2013.
