A scheme to encourage people to visit and shop in Church Stretton has got off to an encouraging start.

Church Stretton Town Council has worked closely with Shropshire Council to develop a pilot scheme for ‘double issue tickets’ in its Easthope Road (Lion Meadow) Car Park.

The scheme is up and running and allows shoppers, on production of the tear-off section of the ticket, to reclaim 50p when they spend £10 or more at participating local stores.  Stores participating are identified by the ‘Park, Shop, Save’ stickers in their windows.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for parking, said:

“We are pleased to be working with Church Stretton Town Council and local traders to encourage people to visit this beautiful area of the county, and the many and varied shops, cafes and pubs in the town.”

Councillor Tom Beaumont, Mayor of Church Stretton, said:

“We are very excited about this pilot scheme.  17 local shops have so far signed up to participate.  It is hoped this initiative will help boost the local economy, and early indications are extremely favourable.”
