New cycle routes for Oswestry and Much Wenlock

To celebrate Love Your Bike Month, Shropshire Council has developed three new leaflets showing cycle rides in Oswestry and Much Wenlock.  The leaflets are being launched with guided cycle rides in both towns this month.

For Oswestry there are two new leaflets in Shropshire Council’s family-friendly rides series.  One leaflet contains maps and route descriptions for three rides in north Oswestry and the second covers two suggested rides in south Oswestry.

The new Oswestry leaflets were launched with a free guided family bike ride on Sunday 21 October 2012.  The gentle three hour ride left Oswestry leisure centre at 11am and included a stop for lunch/drinks in Maesbury Marsh.

The Much Wenlock cycle rides leaflet is a new addition to Shropshire Council’s market town cycle rides series.  It contains maps and route descriptions for three circular cycle rides from Much Wenlock plus a family ride around Ironbridge Gorge.

The new Much Wenlock leaflet will be launched with a free guided cycle ride on Sunday 28 October 2012.  The seven mile gentle paced ride will meet at The Square in Much Wenlock at 10am and will head out to Broseley and Barrow, with a stop at a tea room.  Everyone welcome, but under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.  No need to book.

The new leaflets are available to download or order from the Travel Shropshire website; they will also be available free of charge at local visitor information centres and libraries. For more information about the leaflets or the launch rides visit www.travelshropshire.co.uk/love-your-bike or call 01743 253008.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for cycling, said:

“Cycling is a fantastic, cheap way for families to get out and have fun together and to explore our beautiful county.  Shropshire Council’s new leaflets will help residents and visitors to find new suggestions for places to discover on their bikes.”

Also during Love Your Bike month, families are invited to celebrate Halloween at Cycle Shrewsbury’s free Halloween cycling party at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, 3.30pm-5.30pm on Wednesday 31 October 2012.  The party will include free Dr Bike safety checks, balloon modelling, face painting, party games and a spooky sunset ride around the sports village cycle track.

Plus, Shropshire residents who sign up to receive the Travel Shropshire enewsletter during October will receive a free winter cycling gift.
