Community play store now open

Shropshire Council’s Community Play Store is a new initiative to get communities playing.

The scheme is perfect for those in Shropshire who would like to encourage and provide play in their local area.  Whether they already provide a holiday play scheme, after school provision fun days or just fancy a change from their current equipment, the store is available for anyone to access.

The Play Store has a wide range of play and sport equipment waiting to be used, and all local community or voluntary groups in Shropshire are eligible to sign up – all they need to do is become a member by completing an application form.  Once a member, they will be able to use the wide range of equipment for minimal hiring costs.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“This scheme is a great opportunity for communities to utilise the store and provide more physical and play activity within their groups.  With the wide range of equipment possible to hire, there is something for everyone to enjoy and bring play back into children’s and adults’ lives.  I really hope the residents of Shropshire take advantage of this scheme, not only to extend current schemes which run across the county, but also to encourage the start up of new ones.”

Membership for the store is free.
