Stanton Long Bridge to close for repairs

Related topics: Community

Stanton Long Bridge, which carries the Bush Farm to Stanton Long road over a watercourse near to St Michael’s Church, Stanton Long, will be closed to traffic for repairs for up to three days starting on Wednesday 17 October 2012.

The proposed work will involve removing vegetation from the bridge and repairing part of its downstream parapet wall.

Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the bridge, it is necessary to temporarily close it to traffic to carry out the proposed work safely.

When the bridge is closed, it is proposed to divert traffic via Holdgate and Broadstone.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

‘’It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Milner Whiteman, local Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said:

“Unfortunately this closure will cause a very long diversion, but I know that the workforce will do their very best to minimise the length of time the road is closed.”
